ANIMAL:
One day, NYT Audio came to me and said: “What if we made a podcast where we sent you all over the world to hang out with the animals you’re most into?”
So we did it — and it’s called ANIMAL. We hung out with puffins in Iceland, manatees in Florida, ferrets in Ohio, and bats in the Yucatán. We went to Japan in search of the extinct Japanese wolf. One time I tried to swim like a manatee in a hotel pool (it didn’t work) and also to echolocate like a bat near some Maya ruins (also did not work). We made lots of great friends, human and non-human. I got bit by ferrets and piglets and baby birds. People shared their oldest memories and deepest feelings. It was exhilarating and exhausting.
